Why are my parents like this?

Me and this guy want to date, go on dates, be official and spend time together. My parents are really making things very difficult. They don't like it when I am with him a lot, they don't want me to spend a lot of time with him , not even if we start dating, they tell me that it's disrespectful for myself, and a loss of dignity, if I don't tell him to step away, but I already explained to them that he likes me and I do to.
