What is the point of driverless cars?

therighttothink50 · 56-60, M
To do away with humanity, to facilitate the machine age. What is the point of having internet in your car? To monitor and control every aspect of your life. The technocratic surveillance state is like a cancer which is growing out of control. The willfully ignorant drone generation is in place, only a matter of time before Ancient Rome implodes.

@therighttothink50 I could not agree more!!!
therighttothink50 · 56-60, M
@Fernie Just remember who brought that surveillance state to fruition over the last eight years dear Fernie and the one guy who is trying to slow it down right now.... :)

@therighttothink50 oh, and I thought we were gonna be friends

For driving across Kansas without falling asleep.

I have driven across Kansas before, to and from the Rockies, and most of the time I wondered why I needed to be there. The road is straight and flat in most places, and traffic is light. I have the car in cruise control at 70 or something, and sometimes one finger on the steering wheel to keep it from wandering. Surely a computer/robot could do that for me!
Fernie · F
@JoyfulSilence how about not driving while exhausted????
JoyfulSilence · 46-50, M
I wanted to get where I was going!

Corporate profits. Selling us even more hi-tech crap we don't need.
gmatthewb · 51-55, M
Makes up for all the people who are terrible drivers. We can't get people to stop driving impaired or distracted, so take away their control of the car.
gmatthewb · 51-55, M
@Fernie Not everybody, but most are terrible drivers. I saw it daily as I drove down the roads in both Canada and the United States.
Fernie · F
@gmatthewb most? that's just silly
gmatthewb · 51-55, M
@Fernie Not really. I have talked to a lot of people who don't even know the safe distance to follow the vehicle in front of them. Most don't even know how to measure it. Also, I have seen thousands of people not using their signal lights correctly. I see people changing lanes incorrectly all the time. I have seen countless wrecks on the roads. I have seen people doing illegal maneuvers on the roads as well. There have been days I have been able to see 1 bad driver for every half hour of driving down the road. So, I think 'most' is accurate.
I was wondering the same.
Safer driving by removing the human factor.
For me I don't have the faith in the tech nor do I want to give someone else control of my transportation freedom.
Fernie · F
@jetpack so the human brain seems to be becoming useless, redundant, obsolete...as WE will be soon enough
@Fernie drunk driving accidents could be greatly reduced. Technology does not make us obsolete. We evolve with our advancements.

Drunks don't need to ask a sober person for a ride home.

Potential pro: Reduction of fatalities on roads by removing human error
Cars are now perfectly coordinated on roads.
Potential con: Increase of fatalities on roads due to malicious software.
Eddiesolds · 61-69, M
