@HungJury just because it is a symptom of OCD doesn't mean that it's a disorder in itself. The word isn't always used with the negative meaning. (At least not in my language)
@HannibalAteMeOut Perfectionism definitely has negative connotations in the English language. But you are right in the fact that it is not a disorder that is classified in the DSM-5. Instead it is a personality trait with strong ties to OCD, anxiety, cognitive dissonance, self-harm and substance abuse.

A lot of people in this culture falsely equate perfectionism with having high ambitions or a desire to achieve. They are not the same. The latter categories are usually grounded in realistic assessment of one's abilities to complete certain goals successfully. The perfectionist makes unrealistic goals and overestimates their abilities to achieve them. This almost always results in failure .. which breeds anxiety, depression, low self-esteem etc.
