I keep them in a little box on my desk...and I keep them until I throw them away. It only helps me to curb my spending if I sit down every evening and go through them and do the math. Then it is real. Otherwise they are only little slips of paper.

@nonsensiclesnail Right, exactly. I have an 2 envelopes with "this months receipts" and "last months receipts" on them and they're empty.

@iamnikki Relatable. Currently all my receipts are jammed into a pocket in my purse, which is otherwise empty, except maybe a little bit of lose change and a few dollars.
What I've switched to is giving myself a daily allowance. How much can be spent every day of the month, after bills, and I keep track of that. Sometimes I keep it in cash, usually I just keep track of my spending on paper or in my head because most of it seems be done online anyhow.
