Different reasons. For some it's about a fantasy relationship in their head, a result of intense loneliness and social inadequacy. For others it's mental illness, delusion, etc. Then there are those who have had a relationship with someone that has ended and they cannot let go.
Whichever the case, it's obsession and that's never healthy.
