Does anyone have experience with romance scams?

Have you or someone you know been the victim of a romance scam? What happened when the scam collapsed?

Apparently a relative of mine has been "investing" in crypto with a famous musical performer. He is also in love with her and is in the process of liquidating his assets so they can go on tour together. WTF?
