We live in interesting times
This is about a recent attempt to execute a convicted murderer in the US. It is not about whether capital punishment is good or bad...just about how weird this particular event was.
First, the murder was heinous. It was inexcusable and there is no doubt of guilt.
The co-murderer was 17 and received a life sentence because of his age.
The one to be executed had been sexually abused (allegedly) and was messed up because of it.
It took 30 years to get to the point of performing the execution. In the meantime the crazed killer turned their life around and from all accounts became a good person. She even reportedly helped the staff find veins that weren't blown out that might work in delivering the lethal drugs.
There had been a last minute appeal to stop the execution by lethal injection because the medical condition she had made using her vascular system iffy.
The first lethal dose didn't work...neither did the 2nd.
So they transported her to the hospital where life saving methods were being used and she is now in critical condition. I saw one doctor suggest that she might have suffered brain damage during the attempt to execute her. And I wonder if it is severe enough if the state can execute her then.
There has been a pause in all executions as this is the 2nd unsuccessful attempt this year...
Not sure if the governor of the state will convert her sentence to life in prison or if she will be restored to health in order to execute her.
If I am not mistaken they can't execute her if she is in a coma and unaware of her demise but I may be wrong about this
I'm still trying to rap my head around this to make sense of it.
Again, I have no moral objection to the death penalty. Only the manner in which it is carried out ( or attempted)
