Why do cops make you sit in their front seat occasionally when they run your plates?

I've never heard of a cop taking you to their car during a traffic stop or running your plates.

Them even asking or putting you in their car before running your plates is suspect as fuck.

@WowwGirl no, when you get pulled over the normal thing is they have you wait in your car with your engine off while they run your tags, registration, and license.

Being asked to come sit in their car while doing that is bizarre

But 30% of the time they ask me to sit with them they have had my mother do it too so it's not a looks thing.
