Kevin Spacey Acquitted of All Sexual Abuse Charges

“My world exploded,” Spacey testified. “There was a rush to judgment and before the first question was asked or answered, I lost my job, I lost my reputation, I lost everything in a matter of days.”

He was also acquitted last year in L.A. over similar charges. But with that one, an arbitrator ordered him to pay nearly $31 million to the makers of “House of Cards” for violating his contract by sexually harassing crew members. That's a financial death sentence. Over accusations that weren't legally proven.

A whole lot of good came out of #MeToo. But so did a lot of bad. When the court of public opinion takes over lives can be destroyed. I think courts of law need to have that power.

Acquittal is not innocence. There's a reason the verdict is "not guilty" rather than "innocent".

Basically you're left with either a conspiracy to weirdly take out this guy for no reason, or the standard failures of our court system which is profoundly bad at proving sexual harassment and assault charges.

Like there's a reason why people who may be found not guilty in criminal court are found liable in civil court.

This is a good point, @CountScrofula. It also shows that our system - as flawed as it is - is built well. Our criminal system was created to intentionally minimize the likelihood an innocent person is falsely punished - knowing full well that the price of such a system is the acquittal of some guilty individuals.

Not all criminal cases can also be tried in civil court, but as you note, many can with great effectiveness.
