I Hate Pedophiles

They're disgusting creatures. The cure for paedophilia is death, I really can't think of any other way to deal with it. There is no place in the world for any specimen that thinks it is fine to sexually abuse a child, or anyone for that matter.

Yea I just can't sympathize, even though it's not their fault.

@Flenflyys: If it's not their fault, surely rehab is the better option?
I completely understand
@Flenflyys: Why is it not their fault? Everything we do is a result of a choice that we made.
Gauntlets28 · 26-30, M
@FunJennyGurl: I think she's talking about how paedophilia might be considered a sexual alignment of some sort that someone is born with, or possibly develops because of their environment.
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@FunJennyGurl: It's a result of mental illness, most pedophiles were sexually abused as children themselves or have other issues. People don't have control over their own mental illnesses.

@Gauntlets28: the rehab rate is poor, and I don't know personally but I don't see how someone who was born a pedophile can go their entire lives without committing at least one violation (maybe not assaulting someone, but accessing child porn). There's a difference between pedophilia and opportunistic offenders, though they can be the same thing. And I know a lot of pedophiles despise themselves but I really don't care. They shouldn't be allowed to live.
That is an individual assessment. Many people, including myself) were abused as children and I know, in my case, the things I do are a result of choices I have made, regardless of the abuse I suffered. I still reflect on the abuse but it did not dictate the life that I live now.
I am just curious. You say they are born a pedophile, so is there a pedophile gene in the body? I have never heard of one. A lot of people are saying they should not be allowed to live because they are pedophiles, but yet they also say that it is not their fault because they were born that way.
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@FunJennyGurl: No, it's not really an individual assessment, it's the view of professional psychology. Not everyone responds to stress in the same ways or with the same degree of success/control. Schizophrenics do not have control over their own thoughts and actions, people with extreme bipolar do not have control over their own thoughts and actions. There are many mental illnesses that greatly cloud judgment. We like to think we're far more in control of things than we really are.

But Flenflyys is correct in that reform rates at the moment are pretty terrible, but a lot of that probably has to do with the public disposition toward it, lack of proper research and study and development of more effective treatments/mitigation techniques.

Some people are pedophiles probably as a result of childhood trauma, and some people who've never been abused become pedophiles. And yea acting on anything is their choice. But there are people who claim to have never committed any crime yet are pedophiles and their absence of a violation doesn't mean I have sympathy for them.
Gauntlets28 · 26-30, M
@FunJennyGurl: I have no idea, I'm just speculating. But it seems to me that if we can claim that a person being gay is how they were born, other sexual attractions could be seen to be just as natural. Whether or not they're RIGHT of course, is a totally different kettle of fish. Paedophilia is totally wrong, given the harm it does to children growing up, but perhaps we should be trying to find new ways to help people who feel compelled to do these things.
We don't kill murderers, even though there's arguably a much better case for them to be killed, because we believe in "crimes of passion" that aren't "pre-meditated" and calculated. We try to rehabilitate them instead, because we believe that they can be changed.
Why should we do that with paedophiles?

I am not making a case to try to rehabilitate them. But if we claim that a person was born gay, then shouldn't they be accepted for what they are? Shouldn't murderers be accepted that they are murderers and have no control over it? I say no, because again they made choices regardless of the way they were born, if we believe they were "born" that way.

Many people could say they were born "certain ways" but they have made the choices to not act upon those ways. But those that do, then they should suffer the wrath of the law including pedophiles that choose to act that way.
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@OWTFWN: Yeah, the intense public vilification really doesn't help matters, it causes those suffering from it to retreat from public view and not seek out treatment. I don't know that one can necessarily reprogram them, there's very little actual success with such techniques in psychology, but there is a strong argument to be had for development of proper mitigation methods so they don't criminally offend.
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@FunJennyGurl: Uh, yeah, they should and are. There's a reason why there is a legal differentiation between 1st, 2nd and 3rd degree murder, aggravated murder as well as manslaughter.

@OWTFWN: The cause of pedophilia is not well understood but that is incorrect. Experts believe some pedophiles are born that way.

Anyone can call themselves a therapist so that means nothing to me. And it sounds like you haven't kept up to date on evidence based research because this is widely accepted in 2017, not some obscure opinion. Google it yourself I'm not here to do your homework.

Therapists have a high percentage of mental disorders, they also tend to cause people more problems than they help.
Flenflyys · 31-35, F
@OWTFWN: like I said, access the information yourself. this isn't the first time you've completely missed the mark on something like this on here either. Therapist indeed lol.
