@OWTFWN: They are the group most likely to repeat. If you feel they can be rehabilitated then I will condone it after they have been castrated, not allowed to use the internet and have a collar on their necks that will electrocute the them if they even try to re-offend.

@OWTFWN: it is deemed to cost more to execute a prisoner than to house one for life. Yet, I've tried, for many years, not just on the internet but doing research at the library long before I ever heard of the Internet, and I can't find anything that confirms that. I have no idea how much it costs to execute someone, but to hand down the death penalty and then house them on death row costs nearly double per year, what it costs to house them in general population.

As for cruel and unusual, how is it any more cruel than what a child rapist, or any sexual predator, does to anyone? I, personally, am a little tired of all the pity given to the poor offenders. They were probably abused as children. (Probably, but not all have been abused as children) They are probably mentally ill. (Well, no shit!)

We need to coddle these people, and their victims, later in life when they become predators, because they were abused as children.

Where and when and how do we stop the cycle? The man who assaulted my great granddaughter apparently was in jail ten years ago for sexually assaulting his own daughter. But that was long ago and far away and he certainly didn't tell anyone. And he was released after eight months, only to reoffend. And there is no way we can know how many other children he has harmed without being caught? And can we just assume every new person we befriend is a predator.

Going back to those who taught them that this is acceptable behaviour. I won't debate the probability that these people were abused as children, but at some point, there had to be a first one. Who is to be blamed for the first predator in a family? I don't believe that there is no such thing as a predator who was never taught to be one by someone else.

(She wasn't raped. She was sexually assaulted. As there was no penetration, the don't call it rape)

My great granddaughter reported it immediately. Her mother has her in therapy already. I am not saying that it's impossible that at some time she might commit a crime against a man, but it is YOUR contention that victims can be treated and stop being predators. So why do you assume they can't be treated [b]before[/b] becoming criminals?

The more you talk, the more you sound as if you want to blame anyone but the predators. The adults who forced them to grow up bad, society for not stopping the adults, who, according to you are victims themselves, and eventually, let's blame the victims, for what? Being young? Vulnerable? Afraid? Truthfully you sound like an apologist. I don't trust anyone who sympathizes more with the criminal than the people they harm.

@Flenflyys: I was verbally abused and threatened and called vile names, by two different therapists. Therapists are not immune to prejudice. Nor are they above committing crimes. One of the two who were abusive to me did jail time (after I stopped seeing him as a therapist) for writing prescriptions for controlled substances on demand. Hand him cash, and he wrote a prescription for the drug the paying person wanted.

@OhAngel: well, then I guess psychiatrists are not qualified to give psychotherapy. All of my therapists were psychiatrists. I understand that not all therapists are psychiatrists, but all psychiatrists are (supposedly) qualified therapists, and they can write prescriptions.

@OhAngel: ohAngel, are you under the impression that I know nothing about mental health care professionals? Save your lectures for someone who hasn't been through it all for years. Yes. My psychiatrist abused me. He then got caught writing scripts on demand. Yes I had another who accused me of being an anti Semite because he asked me if I would date him and I said No way. Turns out he was Jewish and that was a test. He claimed it was a test he gave all his patients. And any who said no were unsaveable, so he told them to just give up. Yes. I know they are human and subject to all the same problems we are, but they are in a position to do a lot more harm than I ever could in my position as an office clerk or a house cleaner.

@OhAngel: I am not in the US, I'm in Canada. It wasn't in the last 30 years, it was in the early 1970s. The crazy guy who asked if I would date him, wasn't asking for a date. So, you know so much about Canada's health care system is/was/ has been set up for the last half century?

He asked if I would date him. When I said no he said I was anti Semitic. I've not lied. You're an ass. Canada is very easy to see a psychiatrist. It's the so call therapists who are out of reach of the low income people. The number of visits depended on what the psychiatrist determined was necessary. The last one I saw decided that twice a week was necessary. That was 25 years ago. He was verbally abusive and I quit seeing him.

Then he went to jail.

And now, we are done. You call me a liar. I have no one to impress. You may now bow out.
