I Hate Seeing Shootings Happen At Schools

I am an educator. I've spent a huge portion of my life in schools so it feels normal for me to be in a school environment.. I've always liked school.
Now that I'm a teacher my husband and I talked about me putting myself in harms way with my career choice. The odds of me being in a school shooting is relatively low..being killed in a school shooting corresponds.
I participated in a two day active school shooter exercise. It was a required workshop for me as a first year faculty member. There is a designated all hazards region in this state which combines law enforcement fire and EMS personelle in a central effort. we had a multi story building takeover scenario..cornered area and the schools elaborate driveway scene.
we had actors suffering simulated trauma..personelle loading simulated victims..training weapons being fired..yelling..sirens.
This instruction includes situational awareness..remaining rational and not letting emotions run my actions. Using at hand materials to block doorways..electrical switch panels to use to our advantage.
This state is a shall issue state for a concealed weapon license and holders may bring guns to school. Such persons were advised to Not act as an impromptu police officer just get you and someone else if you can to safety.
This was intended to help us survive a mass shooting to work as a team and recognizing others and their roles during such a crisis.

A slight tip to you and other teachers: Don't ignore the kids that seem to be withdrawn from other kids. As someone that planned to commit a school shooting (I was bullied, but the teachers, and even principal, looked the other way), all I needed was SOMEONE to help me. Luckily, I got myself expelled from school before it got to that point.

TL;DR, Pay special attention to those that keep to themselves.

yes we went over that in a classroom portion of the workshop..there has been a correlation between anti depressant medications and perpetraters but that may reflect that the student may have been a victim in the past or returnees from the middle east wars
domestic terrorism and membership in violent groups..
