Yep. He went in to be seen. Appears to be another disenfranchised, young, white male, with an assault weapon, prepared to take their failure out on the world.
@Ynotisay putting the gun availability issue aside for a moment, you bring up something that has to be addressed: why so many people now are taking out their frustration like this. And it's not just the mass killings, those are the ones making the national news. There have been 2 instances this year in the area I live where fired personnel walked back into their former workplace with guns to kill someone. One was successful, one was stopped in time.
It's like a wave of insanity that keeps growing, nationwide.

@robingoodfellow It's a good question and my thinking is that the internet is a huge contributor. People get radicalized and encouraged. There's cesspools out there where the broken puppies congregate. When that's your world it's easy to see real life through a different lens.
@Ynotisay i also have a personal theory that the way so many people are spending most of their lives in cyberspace is contributing to depression and an inability to find satisfaction in the real world. I'm seeing this in a lot of the people around me.

@robingoodfellow I couldn't agree with you more. I'm old enough to remember when the internet came to be the optimism of how we could use it. But I think what's happened is that the internet is using us. And you definitely see it with the young, disenfranchised males. They're becoming radicalized. We need to get a handle on it. When truth is up for interpretation, and there's people out there preying on the broken and angry, some bad stuff will continue to be the result.
