He was a Muslim wasn’t he? Shouldn’t we assume all terrorists are mentally ill by default
GeistInTheMachine · 31-35, M
@Flenflyys No. Terrorism is ideological, not a mental illness in and of itself.
Flenflyys · 31-35, F
I mean one should be considered mentally ill to partake in terrorism.
MethDozer · M
@GeistInTheMachine being an ideological fundamentalist is a mental illness.

@MethDozer I don't think so. There's a logic to it if your circumstances are twisted enough. Terrorism always stems from a grievance of some sort. So by itself, it's not mental illness.

People aren't born terrorists, for example, but they can be born mentally ill.

However, mentally ill people sometimes engage in acts of terror. Still, other people who engage in it know exactly what they're doing, pass all psychological evaluations, and regret nothing.

@GeistInTheMachine I disagree, if you give in some fairy tail or ideology to the point you are willing to blow up a building, go on a mass shooting, or crash plane you count as being Fucking nuts and crazy. I know we are supposed to be mainstreaming mental illness and making it seem like it is nothing and something everyone has but fuck that. These people are defacto crazy. Just because they know what they are doing does not mean they are not mental cases.
GeistInTheMachine · 31-35, M
@MethDozer I think it's more complex than that, but fair enough.
MethDozer · M
@GeistInTheMachine It isn't really. Everyone these days wants to say that about everything but it rarely is and the more we as a group act like it is the worse the results keep getting.

@Flenflyys Muslims are mentally insane?
Flenflyys · 31-35, F
@UserNameSW are they? I’ve met some nice ones
Flenflyys · 31-35, F
@MethDozer a lot of experts want to officially classify religious fundamentalism as a curable mental illness; there’s quite a bit of research on it. I wouldn’t disagree with this.
Flenflyys · 31-35, F
@GeistInTheMachine this man passed no psychological evaluations and was known to the OPP, that’s why people are so angry.
MethDozer · M
@Flenflyys Political fundamentalism should be as well.

I don't believe in cures for crazy though.
