@jshm2 I hate you.

@jshm2 Have you read it?

I read Midnight's Children a long time ago, and it was an excellent read, like one of the best books I read that year. Maybe I'll get Satanic Verses out of the library and see what all the fuss is about.
Of course. If they’d read it, they might’ve risked seeing something they actually agreed with. 🤨

I bought it back when it was first released, because I was curious. He’s an excellent writer.

I feel so badly for him.

Salman Rushdie has had fatwa on his head for decades.

After Rushdie was almost murdered three years ago, an Iranian government spokesman said: “We do not consider anyone other than Salman Rushdie and his supporters worthy of blame and even condemnation. By insulting the sacred matters of 1.5 billion Muslims and crossing the red lines of Muslims, Salman Rushdie exposed himself to popular outrage.”

For a book. A novel.

His name is interesting. I'm picturing salmon rushing to die.
@EarthGirl The name Salman means "safe" or "secure" in Arabic. Ironic, because I don’t think he’s been safe one day since that book was released back in 1988. 🥺
