I would say their overall opinion about Hamas is “guilty with an explanation.” The protesters are thoroughly anti-Zionist, however. So, they share a goal of eliminating Israel as it exists now, but they generally don’t want to murder every Israeli Jew. Hamas does.
The protesters hate when you bring up what life would be like under an Islamic state. That being said, “Iran's Supreme Leader Sayyed Ali Khamenei told pro-Palestinian American students they "are standing on the right side of history," in a letter directly addressing them.
"You have now formed a branch of the Resistance Front and have begun an honorable struggle in the face of your government's ruthless pressure - which openly supports Zionists," Khamenei wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter, that was part of his letter published Thursday.
I haven’t heard much condemnation by the “youth” of how Iran treats women or homosexuals. It does begs some questions. I think they don’t want to be accused of Islamophobia. Israel holds a special place in their hearts.

@Bumbles That's a strawman proposition.
Some of the protesters are anti-semites, specifically anti-Jewish, don't care much about facts and have tunnel vision. Kind of like you're doing here by throwing Iran into the mix, and making it about Hamas.
On the flip side, the protesters I spoke with, are concerned about stopping the carnage.
Obviously, by pointing to Hamas, Iran, LGTB rights, and basically just about everything but stopping the slaughter, is the right answer?

@Northwest I was referring to being anti-Zionist, not anti-Semitic. The question was about Hamas, which gets funding from Iran. I don’t think the protesters are “pro-Iran” and they are being used as propaganda. I find that interesting, and thought the poster might as well. Both Hamas, Iran, and the protesters are anti-Zionist. That doesn’t mean the protesters are genocidal, and I make that point.
The conflict has many facets, and the poster is bringing up one of them.
If you want to discuss the war itself, that’s fine, but it wasn’t what I was responding to, and I included other things that interest me. I know the protesters want a cease-fire, and divestment from Israel. I happen to find their anti-Zionism of particular interest and relevant to the post.

@Northwest Yes, I think they do have a broader agenda, but their focus is on divestment. Divestment from Israel was a goal before October 7 as part of BDS, too.
They have made their anti-Zionist sentiments well known in chants and on signage. I didn’t think that would be a controversial opinion. Being anti-Zionist is hardly an extreme position of the left, or on college campuses.
I would find it hard to imagine a Zionist protester. Perhaps some of the Jewish kids, but I would say they are a particular group and the exception proving the rule.

Which is not what I said, but you're on a roll, with your strawmaniship. I said you are putting all protesters in the same boat, when it's clear they are driven by different issues. There is, however, a common thread: stop the human slaughter.

@Northwest I think they are generally in the same boat, and discussing aspects of the protests other than "stop the slaughter" isn't a straw man. It's what is evident.
Of course not all protesters share the same exact concerns, but it seems I am to ignore what is chanted, what is on signs, and what is stated in published demands and editorials, lest I am accused of "strawmanship." Per your rules, I am only to reference the protesters as those who peacefully protest current IDF operations.
The facts tell a different story: the calls for divestment aren't limited to just weapon manufactures. It's total divestment from the state of Israel. Those calls existed before October 7. There aren't calls for the IDF to just alter their rules of engagement. The call for a cease fire is a call for Israel to cease all military operations against Hamas with no conditions. The howls of "apartheid" aren't limited to just military operations. The call to cut any ties to any Israeli university isn't limited to military focused research. The calls to end any association with Hillel because they are "Zionist" should similarly be ignored according to you as well. The calls for intifada? Ignore them. The chants of "by any means necessary." Ignore those, too. And lest we forget "From the River to the Sea" is just a call for a cease fire. (Both sides use the term so I'll save you the effort). The consistent references to the Nakba, to Israel being a settler colony, to being an ethnostate?
Must have made that all up, and apparently none of it is anti-Zionist to boot. Okee-dokee.
