Does free speech exist ?

justanothername · 51-55, M
Yes it does but any time you have someone expressing their unfiltered opinion about any topic you will always get push back by people who are also entitled to express their disagreement with that opinion.
justanothername · 51-55, M
@Evolved Well that would work if no one else was going to hear what you said.
It does kinda work for Donald Trump but he is loosing friends faster than he is gaining them.
@justanothername what do you mean? Freedom of Speech does not exist because you can't say anything with freedom anywhere. It 's not question anymore. No one can say what they want about anyone , anywhere, Social Media or in real life. Stop with the none-sense and listen what I'm saying. If I had freedom of speech I could say anything about anyone anytime.

IMO it does not, IF you let it be suppressed and taken from you!
Elessar · 26-30, M
@soar2newhighs If you were really "suppressed" you wouldn't be here talking about it. Try saying something against Putin in Russia or against Xi in China and see if you'll live to tell about it. That's suppression. Not merely getting suspended for breaking the TOS of a platform you've deliberately agreed with when you signed up.
@Elessar Not quite sure what you are attempting to say. What I posted is an OPINION.
SW-User
I think it does, but I think a lot of people define "free speech" differently. The freedom to say whatever we want whenever we want with no consequences has never existed.
@SW-User understood
I dunno, but don't trust anyone who calls themself a "free speech absolutist"!

Even clearly marked parody gets suspended

graphite · 61-69, M
Say something the left doesn't like and it's called "hate speech" and you are through.
@graphite If laughing at you makes me a fan, sure.

And no. I am not a cult lemming like you.
graphite · 61-69, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow I'm the only one laughing - you're stewing in bitterness, hate, and rage. 🤣
@graphite It is cute all the delusions you have to convince yourself.
Abstraction · 61-69, M
Yes, in my country. Free speech doesn't mean slander, inciting terrorism or murder though.
@Abstraction What country
Abstraction · 61-69, M
@Evolved Australia. At least that's the norm. Unfortunately the previous right wing government started prosecuting whistleblowers to cover their dirty laundry.
1954zebedee · 70-79, M
No. Free speech is a thing of the past. The so called politically correct idiots have seen to that. The twats!
ArishMell · 70-79, M
It does, if you live in nations that allow it. (If you don't you'd probably not be able to ask such a question!)

In the real world that is... I am fear some aspects of so-called "social media" are very much against it, at least on-line, even to the extent of wrecking people's lives and livelihoods for the "crime" of airing views or even facts not the bullies' own.
acpguy · C
Never did entirely but it has gotten to the point of not existing at all today due to democrats / liberals / socialists / globalists running most of the countries including the USA.
No. You get punished for saying certain things, anywhere
@Elessar of course we are able to say anything we want. But freedom doesn't mean ability. I will not always be free after saying certain things, right? What is "freedom?"

If you mean my personal freedom of choice, then no doubt. However, laws and police anywhere and everywhere will punish and curtail your freedom when you cross specific lines. We surely can't call that freedom.
@Elessar that's kinda the difference I see between freedom of speech and consequences
@sexyjigsaw I agree
Seashell · 36-40, F
Not on here
@Seashell I'm Paranoid? From asking a question on a Q&A site? how stupid is that, hahahaa. What would I be paranoid about? I have plenty of air, and maybe you need some thinking that Freedom of Speech is allowed in USA. You do know that hate speech is punishable in USA? How many type of idiot are you ?

@Seashell By your definition of free speech there should be no consequences or accountabillity?
Yes, we create the conditions for free speech to be extended to everyone and for the people to all be heard- through democratic government- or we live without.
Obviously Murka likes the oligarchy to run its mind and its web.

@jshm2 If someone completely trashed your reputation with lies so that everyone believed you were a pedophile for the rest of your life... Or reveal the addresses of those in witness protection and they ended up killed... Do you think that's 'free speech'? Freedom to say anything no matter who it harms? I don't.
@jshm2 I think you might be right
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
Only for some it seems, but,then here I am free to express this opinion.
only among equals
