There is nothing productive about confining someone

Giving them a criminal record which doesn’t allows them to easily get a job

Putting them on probation that they may eventually violate if they don’t have the money to pay which will be difficult to come up with considering they can’t get a job because they have a record

So now It becomes a cycle. violating your probation, going to jail, not being able to get a job, and having an increasingly growing jail record which further prevents you from being able to find a job

Speaking for prison not jail. 64% of inmates return within 4 years of being released.

I’m not saying don’t throw people in jail but we have got to come up with a more effective system

I think it depends what they have done. I'd rather not have child molesters, perverts, and killers roaming the streets, but I can see where we could be more lenient on non-violent crimes.
