Why is Harvey Weinstein in jail?

@TangledUpInBlue The women chose to have “meetings” with him to further their careers. He remains guilty on one count in New York; hence, he is still there. He will have another retrial in New York and is seeking retrial in California. His 2020 convictions in New York were overturned last year by state’s highest court, which ruled that the 2020 trial was “unfair.”

@emiliya most, not all though, isn’t that enough? I don’t know anything about the case besides those that came forward. I’m sure he has the best lawyers that will get him off if he is innocent.

@TangledUpInBlue It is not enough when 2020 trial was ruled “unfair” and he was slapped with a guilty conviction this year after his other guilty convictions were overturned. You should learn about the case.

@emiliya Weren’t there over 80 women who came forward? Perhaps some lied but if it walks like a duck, swims like a duck then it’s generally a duck. The courts found him guilty didn’t they? Why are you so convinced he’s innocent?

@TangledUpInBlue The problem of the women is their lack of power. They do not feel they should have to give their bodies for movie roles and they are upset about it. Harvey was not breaking into the homes of women and raping them; he was not taking walks in the forest and attacking female campers. He is not Ted Bundy or Richard Ramirez. He sat them down and said, “Are you going to do this for me, to get this for you?” If they declined, they would have to leave the meeting and would not get the role. You can say that this isn't right, but is it illegal? The movie, modeling, and music industries are sex industries. Women sell their bodies to make money. Even when they are not having sex with the men, they are using their appearance to entice the men.

This is what modeling is about. The singers and actresses whom people find aesthetically pleasing are selling their bodies.

@TangledUpInBlue We do not know. How easy is it for a woman to say that she did not oblige and that Weinstein is the reason for her failed career? Hollywood has more failures than successes.

@emiliya Peter Jackson ( director of Lord of the Rings) claimed he got a blacklist of actors not to work with from Weinstein. Why would he lie?

@TangledUpInBlue Weinstein can say they were “difficult to work with” or not up to the job. Can you prove why he had blacklist? All the studio executives, directors, producers, agents, and actors have blacklists.

@emiliya I don’t know enough about the case as I’ve said. I get that people have strong opinions on this, but I’m not interested in diving deeper into the Weinstein case. It’s up to the courts, not social media.
