Did it though?
If anything the kids who are against it need to stand up for themselves and their own beliefs. Just as the coach stood up for his. just because someone prays in front of me, or calls me their sister in christ at work, I don't feel coerced. They are trying to include me and show me something that is important to them. what is wrong with that?
And if it offends me? fine. I can be offended. children need to learn this.

@TwiddlerofThumbs Players need to stand up to their coach? Kids? That honestly seems okay to you?
What about public school teachers leading Christian prayer in class? You think that feeling of coercion is fair?
Why do they need to fight when there is no need to lead prayer in public school to be Christian.

@Fukfacewillie Yes. Freedom of belief is pretty simple. you can either believe in whatever god they want you to, or don't. it's not hard.

@TwiddlerofThumbs But what about the coercion aspect. To be on the team, or to get good grades. Means noting to you?

@Fukfacewillie there is a coercion aspect?

@TwiddlerofThumbs Kids testified they felt compelled to pray to be on the team. Seems logical. What about teachers and grades?
It wasn’t just silent prayer, he led Christian prayer sessions.

@Fukfacewillie Obviously there should be no coercion. your beliefs are your own and no one elses unless they choose to participate. If your are going to be penalized because you didn't bow down to the god of goats, then maybe they should go fuck themselves. but did the kids feel like they couldn't play if thy did not pray or did they feel intimidated by the fact that their coach was being a coach, all mouth and little brains for anything other than their goals?
Fukfacewillie · 56-60, M
@TwiddlerofThumbs The coach did not say “if you don’t pray with me to won’t play” but if you were on the team, and not Christian, perhaps a marginal player, can you see how you might feel compelled? These are kids, too. I think the pressure would be quite real
What about teachers? The principal at assembly?

@Fukfacewillie @Fukfacewillie and on the contrary, if you are christian this is not great news. I don't want my Govt. dictating my religion in any way.
I've been in similar situations when. I was in high school, but it was more of if the soccer coach didn't want to bang you, you didn't play. I knew plenty of other s at the time who felt a lot of pressure because of that.
but that's not about praying on the field. That's manipulation and coercion that may or may not have happened, and of course that's wrong.

@TwiddlerofThumbs I’m sorry that happened to you. It’s very wrong. Well, thank you for listening.
I believe in religious accommodations at work by the way, but I don’t see leading a prayer session with players durian school is necessary to practice Christianity.
The school said he could pray on his own, of course.
Well, thank you for listening and giving me your perspective.

@Fukfacewillie We used to pray before every basketball game. But they were mormons and I had no interest in their ideas or their values. I also rarely played because I was terrible. I don't think I played less because I was not mormon, but more than likely that is the case. Also I was pretty bad.
Did I mention I was not a great player?
right,.
I have no issue with prayer. but, I am a Christian. not a great one and not something I will go telling everyone about. Its something I get mocked for, derided for, made fun of for. And that's mostly by family members. I'm terrified at what I see happening politicly. Current events make me cry. What is happening is so nonsensical unless you are part of the agenda of the current Republican Party. Hell, I can't even move back to my home state because I hate what is taking place there. People are changing and not for the good.
I knew all the football coaches at my high school. none of them prayed, none of them held people back unless there was good reason. that's how the game should be played. religion shouldn't be a deciding factor in a game.

@TwiddlerofThumbs You get made fun of for not being a good Christian? How do they know? It seems humility is a Christian value.
TwiddlerofThumbs · F
@Fukfacewillie a good one? for just for reading a bible and believing God. Obviously only idiots believe in higher powers. ( tech nerds are difficult)

The reason why he was fired, is that he was disrupting school activities, by taking the field for his own religious practices.
So, it's not like some other group, say Muslim students can say: hey coach, move along, it's time for us to pray, and then the Jewish students, and then the Hindu students, and then the devil worshipers, and then the Scientologists, and then the Ramtha worshipers....
