I heard a heartbreaking emergency alert, once.
It was maybe 9 years ago. It was an amber alert. For those not in the US, an amber alert is a statewide alert of a child abduction, broadcast on TV and other media. It's usually just text but this particular one had audio. I could tell that the woman speaking was not a professional and was emotionally invested in it. She sounded concerned and scared. I got the impression that it was the mother of the missing child who requested to detail the message herself and add audio to it, which is not typical. She was dedicated to saving her child.
The most heartbreaking part was when she brought up one, particular detail. This child was in need of a daily, life-saving medication. When the woman said this, her voice choked up and rose as if she was about to cry.
It was then that I realized I was listening to a mother describe the abduction of her child... who would likely die.
I wish I would have kept up with the case. Today, I'm curious to know if that mother was ever reunited with her boy. I pray to God that she was.
