Mom had it hanging in the kitchen and she was also a spanker.

@SW-User The meaner the behavior, the more sentimental the facade. Seems to be true for a lot of abusive people.

My mother was a nursery school director for 32 years. She had that hanging on her wall right next to her desk. It always amazed me. How could she put these words right next to her desk?

My mother was abusive and emotionally cruel. For the awful details, you can read my Featured story. Mom was amazing.

I guess today "amazing" is a complimentary word. I meant it in the original sense that I was amazed that my extremely abusive mother had the nerve to put such a list up on her wall.

Her ability to charm people and take hypocrisy to a whole new level never failed to amaze me. The word was an attempt at sarcasm. Some abusers really know how to put up a great front. And, believe it or not, Mom ran a good nursery school, too, for decades. To me, it seemed that she knew how to care for and love any child--except one.

@greenmountaingal I am so sorry this happened to you, but glad you survived, and hopefully most of the scars have healed? Is your life pretty normal now? Do you have any children?
greenmountaingal · 70-79, F
@Silverwings I wouldn't have taken a chance on marriage or children. My life has never been normal. I've been in therapy and am on medication now. I do OK for an old retired (teacher) lady of 75 with a lot of really awful memories. Only my faith in God and my sense of humor help.
