Thodsis There was something called Q. The devout followers of Q were referred to as anons. There was never a Qanon. That was simply a leftist tactic to discredit, divide & conquer. That was the leftwing part of the conspiracy. That part is known.
Now, here's what I think was really going on:
I don't know who started the Q thing, or how it gained any traction, but I don't think it was real either. Whatever it is/was, it remained mysteriously anonymous and began tossing out ridiculous "clues" seeing who would follow. And conservative people frustrated with the US govt took the bait and formed a small movement. Whether this was organized by those on the right or left, I don't really know, but a bunch grifters who understood monetization models took advantage of these gullible people, pretending they had the inside track to confidential govt information, and some people started following them for clicks = $$$. A lot the shit they pushed was down right insane.
After a couple of years, the whole thing just dried up.
