Uber and lyft have taken a lot of business from taxi companies....it affected their business tremendously, so that's an example of retaliation from a taxi driver..they HATE Uber and Lyft.
Lots of the reasons are: Taxi companies have to get permits for the vehicles and drivers...very strict processes....background checks and $1.5million in liability insurance. They must be clean and no broken glass or smoking allowed...it varies by state....but lots of red tape to get approved.
Uber and Lyft go through NO permit processes...no background checks or vehicle checks...all they do is check for driver's license...THAT'S IT ! And Uber puts insurance on the ride only when the app is turned on...
And it's much easier for consumers to get an uber or lyft than a taxi because of the app.
So that's why they are pissed. But historically, taxi drivers and companies and terrible, so in a way, they caused their own problem.
I would patronize the taxi more than uber...it's safer for sure.
