I am curious to know how many of you support high speed police chases of a motorcycle in heavy traffic for no reason but traffic violations? Is it worth engaging or continuing a high speed chase with multiple police cars of a traffic / non violent criminal offender on a motorcycle in heavy traffic or just let him go to be caught another time?

The danger in high speed pursuits comes from kinetic energy. The kinetic energy of one police car that weighs 5000 lbs traveling at 140 mph is equal to a bomb going off. Multiply that times 4-6 police vehicles traveling at that speed in pursuit of a non violent offender and the danger to the public skyrockets. Compared to One motorcycle that weighs 400-600 lbs traveling at 100 mph. By engaging a pursuit that has compelled to motorcycle rider to go faster and drive even more wreckless.
Kinetic Energy = KE= 1/2mv² with that simple math equation the motorcycle has less than 1/4 the kinetic energy of just one police car.

On average over 660 civilians are killed every year on American highways from high speed police pursuits. That's almost 2 deaths every single day.

I am not suggesting not to pursue all criminals, violent offenders, bank robbers, murderers , etc.etc. need to be caught. But just for a non violent offender who probably faces a few thousand dollars in fines at most , is it worth or justified to create so much more danger to innocent civilians. Is catching that traffic offender worth the cost of a human life ?

no cops belong on the highway chasing cars

Its not ok. Regular people can do that, esp ones who need jobs.

@Shadyglow it's not legal for private citizens to brake the law while trying to enforce the law. That would be even a worse catastrophy with some of the psychos on our roadways.

@goodlil666 Its not "legal" in some circles to EVER institute new laws and regulations to make a MUCH better society

But anyone has the right to do this.

Live and learn..

Heavy

Sigh!!!

@Shadyglow And it's a different set of rules a person has to comply with to make it legal and stand up in court. If you don't follow those rules they will throw the case out even before it goes to court.

@goodlil666 well some people prefer to live in places where nothing ever changes 4 the better. is SW one of them??

Or maybe you are a traffic cop?

On second thought...forget it. I'm on to something else already

@Shadyglow You don't have a clue what you are talking about and your incoherent babbling clearly shows that. Citizens arrests are legal in the USA, but you better know the laws on how to execute them. They can easily be dismissed if not done exactly by the book and if you did anything out of line you could easily end up in court with much more serious charges than the person you arrested. Kidnaping , unlawful restraint , violation of civil rights are just a few. If you or anyone else is going to attempt that I highly recommend you seek qualified legal advice first.

"People with scary guns and militia uniforms" who are you referring to? Military? National Guard? Police? Armed civilians? Because if it's armed civilians you are referring to im about as well equipped as they come. Large selection of all types of firearms several centerfire semi-automatic high capacity magazine rifles, tactical gear including level III body armor , gas masks and stockpile of ammo.
