Thoughts and Prayers Break Out in Lewiston Maine

No word on whether the gun used is OK, as the suspect is still at large. But mass killing apologists are already asking whether we should outlaw knives and cars, since they kill people too.

Some things never change.

Another thought about those who would compare a mode of transportation to a firearm designed to kill several people in one incident: Not everyone legally has the privilege of driving a car, and that only causes harm when something goes wrong. Not when used for its intended purpose.
Killing is an assault weapon’s intended purpose.
Vin53 · M
@bijouxbroussard

The gun functioned exactly as it was designed to function.
The gunman used the gun exactly as it was meant to be used.
The gunman owned the weapon exactly as the NRA, the manufacturer, the seller, and the state and federal lawmakers intended.
The (currently) 18 people who are dead and dozens of people are wounded as was the designed intent of the United States of America.

@bijouxbroussard No matter how many times your valid point is expressed, people will continue to whine about cars, trucks, knives, baseball bats, etc. as if there is an equivalency. Other nations know there is none.
TheDisciplinarian · 61-69, M
@bijouxbroussard Sorry...You're Clueless..lol
@TheDisciplinarian I don’t have a clue why some people love assault weapons more than they do other human beings ? I don’t understand why they can’t recognize the difference between what a car is designed to do vs. a weapon designed to kill several people at once—and has no other function ?

But I do understand that it’s easier to call names than to discuss the issue itself when there’s no answer to those questions. If you had a valid argument it seems you’d be eager to offer it. 😳
TheDisciplinarian · 61-69, M
@bijouxbroussard as i Said..
Your Clueless

Where you're Wrong
If said person(s) are found to Not be of Right Mind
And or have or recentky Threathened to shot ( whomever)

Then Sadly..
That person or persons Need be put under medical Observation
And or Institutionalized
If for No Other Reason..then Due to Seriousness of said Threat(s)
And or Likilyhood of person(s) likely perception as a threat
Must have a themselves Removed from public society and into whichever mental observation is so Deemed Best
@TheDisciplinarian That’s what should happen. It didn’t. So here I’m agreeing with you. How does that make me clueless ?
TheDisciplinarian · 61-69, M
@bijouxbroussard for one
Comparing Driving a car
You stated in those Instances
Things Only go Wrong..Due to Mechanical issues / Happenings
And Absolutely Not

Drinking and driving
Under drug influences
As well as people opting to outright drive against traffic
Those All happen on a Daily Basis

Hense in your saying as you said
I called B.S...in that..thst was a Clueless statement
@TheDisciplinarian Reread my post.
when something goes wrong. Not when used for its intended purpose.
Nowhere did I specify the misuse was mechanical. Driving under the influence also qualifies as not using the vehicle for its intended purpose. The manufacturers don’t intend for drivers to drive impaired, do they ?
TheDisciplinarian · 61-69, M
@bijouxbroussard those guns..
Be it hand or Assult guns
Also only designed to bring down one target at a time dear..lol
@TheDisciplinarian You needn’t "dear" me. I’m a total stranger to you. Results with multiple dead would prove otherwise.
TheDisciplinarian · 61-69, M
@bijouxbroussard if i said dear me..
Well opps..
Just got home from hospital
Leg all bandaged..
In a good deal of pain..

But oh well
In being Driven Home
I First heard of this Latest Shooting Tragedy
( i Clearly Lay Blame for the Person(s) who released this guy
Clearly too early ( Obviously i blame the shooter as well )

I Do Not....Can Not..Blame the Gun ( regardless of type used )
@TheDisciplinarian I am sorry that you’re in pain.
I, too, blame whoever released this person and didn’t take his threats seriously. I don’t blame the gun itself, it’s just a tool. But I do blame the fact that no attention seems to have been paid to his ability to easily lay hands on one, after all of the indications that he had become disturbed and was intent on doing harm.
Vin53 · M
@bijouxbroussard It absolutely highlights the sheer ineffectiveness of our country to do anything to thwart mass killings via assault style rifles. Think about it, this guy was shedding red flags to the point where he was hospitalized with mental illness and he was still able to fall through the cracks and destroy so many people's lives.

You're never going to get closer to preventing these incidents short of having someone imprisoned.

Its.
Not.
Working.
TheDisciplinarian · 61-69, M
@Vin53 Agreed Not working
Yet the issue is N O T the Guns
Those who arent taken off the streets
When clearly they have mental issues

Get it Right
Otherwise there will be No Winning this
Vin53 · M
@TheDisciplinarian I have a Ruger10/22 and a Bersa 380 and no matter how good a shot I am they wouldn't be able to do a 1/3 of the damage one Military assault rifle could do and if you know an inkling about guns you know I'm right. It absolutely is the guns. Full fukn stop
TheDisciplinarian · 61-69, M
@Vin53 No No..Am Not depating Velocities different guns have
Any Singlemshot gun
Be it hand gun or the Supposed Assult gun
Still shoot off 1 round at a time

Can one if intended target is missed..
Can bullet travel through a wall ( even multiple walls ) Absolutely
Yet
There are Responcible ways of shooting
Neither should one shoot any gun
Outside of self defense or at a range

An Assult gun..also Typically has little to no backfire kick
(Try thst on a shotgun or anything larger then a 9mm)

I am For Gun Rights
I've seen more then a few Instances where a Gun can Stop
And or minimise bad activitiesneven without discharging the gun
Yet..
Too often..the assailant is on a One track mind
Be it deloosenal and or under the influence

This topic is way way long off topic
Many recently died
Many more have a difficult road to recover
( & i Pray to GOD they can and do recovery)
@TheDisciplinarian
This is the topic.

The first mass shooting I remember seeing reported on tv was in 1966–Charles Whitman, a former Marine sharpshooter who killed 16 people (wounded 31) from the tower of Texas U with an arsenal of weapons, including some semis. It was shocking because it was unheard of.

And it wasn’t happening a lot until maybe the last 25 years. Now we’re hearing reports just about every month. What has changed ? Seriously ? You can’t blame it on "foreigners", these are home grown nuts.

The only common denominator lately has been assault weapons and easy access to them. Possibly incidences of mental illness have increased, but mental illness plus easy access to weapons that can kill crowds is exactly what we’re seeing now.

I don’t believe anyone who "supports gun rights" without supporting gun responsibility cares about human beings.

TheDisciplinarian · 61-69, M
@bijouxbroussard Gun Responsibility is Paramount
Mental Illness also is the Major Factor ( like it or Not)
I know..First hand..the Success Proper Gun Ownship and use
Is Good and Prope

Stop Attacking
Those who ONLY want to Continue the Right
To Protect themselves and or their Families
TheDisciplinarian · 61-69, M
@windinhishair Agreed
And..Ill add...Thats Shameful Indeed
@TheDisciplinarian I’m not "attacking" anyone. They can protect people without using assault weapons, that’s what they’ve always done before. I just don’t believe the ones not trying to restrict the easy access of military style weapons care about all these deaths of innocent people.
And I’m going to speak about it. You can block me if it bothers you. We have our 2nd Amendment, but we also have our 1st.
TheDisciplinarian · 61-69, M
@bijouxbroussard Right..
Clearly..You yourself have Never Needed Worrying about defending yourself and or your family

Fyi...often you Cant count upon Cops
Their Job is Notmto Protect you or Me
( ive experienced that first hand as well)

Yet
You go ahead and Tought your Ignorance
Many Agree with you
Likely far more with me

You have a Nice day ago

Amazing
How most complain...one way or the other
Yet hardly seen any offering Prayers to those Past
And or too thosenwho Now need to Struggle back to Health
( Hopefully..if they Can )

Prayersmto All
@TheDisciplinarian Again, I’m a total stranger to you. You know nothing about me or my life experiences. None of the gun-owners in my family own assault weapons. The people who agree with you are offering useless "thoughts & prayers" to people who again have senselessly lost loved ones. Those who agree with me (and the OP and other posters here) understand that those just aren’t enough. 🥺
TheDisciplinarian · 61-69, M
@bijouxbroussard
Have you ever shot..
A Hand gun of at least 9mm ( to hopefully stop intruders)
Ever shot a ShotGun
Do you know what gun recoils are
Their Non existent
Neither does one need figure out putting Sitenon transgressors

Yet...your Supposed Assult guns
Easy to hold..steady..aim..shoot ( near no to no recoils)

Myself
My prefrence is a good shotgun
There too aiming is easy ( due to spread of fragments)
Im Ok with the recoil.. Plus the sound Precussiin also adds value (i say)

Yet
Assult guns Typically hold far more rounds (before needing reload)
And are Easier to Follow transgressors or would be assallents
@TheDisciplinarian Handgun, and my grandmother’s rifle. You’re certainly not going to change my mind about assault weapons. You’re just convincing me that you’re bloodthirsty enough to be okay with these regular shootings on the off chance that you might someday get to kill a bunch of people in "self defense". 😞
