Thoughts and Prayers Break Out in Lewiston Maine

No word on whether the gun used is OK, as the suspect is still at large. But mass killing apologists are already asking whether we should outlaw knives and cars, since they kill people too.

Some things never change.

I Hear..even partly relate
To all those who say there are too many guns out there

Yet
Ifnthis guy Threatened to shot countless people
Whynthe Hell did he Simply get 2 weeks of basically Observation

This is a Failure partly due to medical staff
And or whatever Legal Authorities Enabled or Allowed him back on the streets

If ( as was said here)
He Openly Threatened and said he wanted to shoot dozens
Isn't that threat also a form of Professing Terrorism

I Still Believe in One's Rights to Defend oneself and family

Cars and trucks kill way more every day..month and year
Then guns do
Yet..people clearly can and do buy cars and trucks
Instead of relying or trusting mass transit

Im No Rambo
Yet to the Day i Die
I will Vote for the Nessesity of a Sane person's Right to Own and if Need be use a Gun in Protection

@TheDisciplinarian Necessity, huh? Is that how the gutless see it? A necessity? Then why don't I need a gun? And tens of millions of others.
About 32% of Americans own guns. So maybe it's a necessity for the 32% who live in fear. Maybe if they manned the fuck up the MAJORITY wouldn't have to live in a world created by the weak.

@TheDisciplinarian I also support the right to defend yourself, but not with ANY weapon of your choice. When we have the equivalent of military weapons in many households, what we are seeing with mass murder is the inevitable result. The issue with cars and trucks is that they were designed for other purposes, and yes, they can be misused. But these assault weapons differ fundamentally in that they have a sole purpose--to kill large numbers of PEOPLE quickly and efficiently. And indeed, that is how they are often used. exactly as intended.

Yes, there is a mental health issue in this particular case, but the problem of mass shootings is unique to the US. Either the US has many times the rate of mental illness than any other nation, or there is another cause. Guns. Statistics show conclusively that the more guns there are, the more gun deaths there will be. People like you willingly accept the carnage and believe there is nothing we can do about it. Bullshit. Other similar nations do just fine and have figured it out.

I suggest you actually read the Heller v. DC Supreme Court decision. Pay particular attention to the opinion of the author of the majority opinion, Justice Scalia. Even he writes that there is no absolute right to gun ownership, and restrictions on ownership and use are permissible under US law. So let's limit weapons who have no use other than mass murder.

@windinhishair Assult Weapons are in No way the Equivalent of Military guns ( to say otherwise is Simply Ignorance )

Most of these Shootings come down to People with Mental issues
Yes Nealy All of them

Yet though Most are Known to be partly or fully off their rocker
Nothing is done..because its Too Expensive
And or No Agency wants to Risk saying and Forcing these people be given medical care and or institutionalized

Yet EveryOne Runs to say

See see..
Those Dam Guns..
What the Heck they Need Guns for

I have News for you
Even Military rarely wins warsmfrom use of Guns
Rather planes with missiles or Bombs
Yet...what military in their Right mind ( of any country would ban use of guns )

These people are Not mentally Stable
They saw this guy recently was under observation
Some one was like
Ahh heck ( hes ok..he wasnt serious )
If a person or persons make such threats
They need be under medical care minimally 6 months
They dont want that..then dont threaten people

Stop blaming the Gun

Show me
A loaded gun ( of any kind )
Left on a table...pointing at however many people
If no one holds..points and shoots that gun
Will that Gun Ever shoot a person(s) on its Own

Wait wait
Not long ago
Didnt a Baldwin claim..
I didnt pull the trigger
Didnt he also try to say something alone the lines of..i didnt aim directly at so and so
So what was done
They tested the gun...and what was found
Oh yeah..he had to pull the trigger for the gun to have gone off

It isn't the Gun that Kills people
Its people
Yet
In this as is Most mass shootings
They are mentally Unstable people

Who in their Right mind as example
Would hand a person being discharged from a mental evaluation
Hand them a Gun
Yet..thats Exactly what essentually happened here
Very Unfortunately

GoD Bless those who Passed..their families
And Prayers to those..Still Suffering to get better

@TheDisciplinarian Most sane people don't commit mass murder, so mental illness is definitely an issue. But the real issue is guns that are designed for mass killing and their ready availability to all, including the mentally ill. Other countries deal with this issue well. Why not the US? Because there is a large segment of the population that doesn't believe in restricting gun access and ownership at any time for any reason. This needs to change, and now. We need to enact a ban on these weapons and make it permanent, not the tepid ten year ban from 1994 to 2004.
Vin53 · M
@TheDisciplinarian If a gun nut goes to a mental hospital and still wants to hold onto his guns, he's not going to say he wants to shoot people. He may be mental but he's not stupid.
TheDisciplinarian · 61-69, M
@Vin53 thats where you're Wrong
If said person(s) are found to Not be of Right Mind
And or have or recentky Threathened to shot ( whomever)

Then Sadly..
That person or persons Need be put under medical Observation
And or Institutionalized
If for No Other Reason..then Due to Seriousness of said Threat(s)
And or Likilyhood of person(s) likely perception as a threat
Must have a themselves Removed from public society and into whichever mental observation is so Deemed Best
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@TheDisciplinarian Other nations do not have this problem. Does the US have a far higher rate of violent mental illness than the rest of the nations on earth?
Vin53 · M
@TheDisciplinarian Thats some military grade bull shit right there. Assault weapons ARE Military weapons and to say otherwise is lying. They have the same capabilities, to put out as many lethal rounds accurately and as fast as mechanically possible.
TheDisciplinarian · 61-69, M
@windinhishair Good Question
Sure seems Like ( at times )
Im Un-Sure How or if Even i should debate that Question
TheDisciplinarian · 61-69, M
@Vin53 you're way Wrong there
But you think and say as you so Desire ( i suppose )
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@TheDisciplinarian Given your statements, that is the fundamental question. And if you can't answer that question, then you are clueless about the real cause of the problem, since you can't define the problem, let alone address why it exists.
Vin53 · M
@TheDisciplinarian Listen, this guy was in a mental hospital while all his guns were safe, warm and cozy back at his abode waiting for his return. Unless this guy specified in those two weeks that he wanted to shoot people the Dr's had no ability to restrict his access to his own guns.

Dr's aren't mind readers and they can't predict what a sick person is going to do once they've been released from treatment.

And civilian AR-15's are the exact same weapons as military rifles sans full-auto.
TheDisciplinarian · 61-69, M
@Vin53 Right..their Hot full auto
Still can easily fire ma y rounds Quickly

So
Clearly..guy had mental issues
Seems as no one can say otherwise

Why then..are such people not so forced to let be seen what guns they do dont have
Vin53 · M
@TheDisciplinarian
Why then..are such people not so forced to let be seen what guns they do dont have
Vin53 · M
@TheDisciplinarian Mental health issues aren't enough to take away your guns, at least not in ME. So unless he stated to someone with any authority that wanted to kill people, not a damn thing is going to happen to part him and his weapons.
JSul3 · 70-79
@TheDisciplinarian Chris Kyle....remember him? The 'great markman' that inflated his 'kill numbers' in Iraq?
Well, that dumbass lived by the gun and died by it. He took a mentally ill guy to a gun range! What happened? The guy thought Kyle was going to kill him, so he shot first and killed Kyle.
The dumbass could have taken the guy to a movie....a zoo....a museum...but, no, the fool took him to a gun range.
Karma?
Vin53 · M
@JSul3 Yep, that guy was a huge dick.
TheDisciplinarian · 61-69, M
