Destroy the Prison Industrial Complex

The United States have one of the highest prison populations.
In both for profit and state prisons mentally ill people, addicts, desperate people, teenagers and frankly anyone who struggles and doesn’t fit neatly into society gets locked up, often under cruel conditions.
The prison industrial complex is a tool for oppression and should be torn down.

PIC abolition is a political vision with the goal of eliminating imprisonment, policing, and surveillance and creating lasting alternatives to punishment and imprisonment.

From where we are now, sometimes we can’t really imagine what abolition is going to look like. Abolition isn’t just about getting rid of buildings full of cages. It’s also about undoing the society we live in because the PIC both feeds on and maintains oppression and inequalities through punishment, violence, and controls millions of people. Because the PIC is not an isolated system, abolition is a broad strategy. An abolitionist vision means that we must build models today that can represent how we want to live in the future. It means developing practical strategies for taking small steps that move us toward making our dreams real and that lead us all to believe that things really could be different. It means living this vision in our daily lives.

Yes that’s a good idea we’ll drop off all the murderers and rapists at your house and at your family’s houses.
@specman Rapists and serial murderers should be in a form of lock up but not under inhumane conditions.

@specman Eye for an eye is not right or do you want to become like them?

@RebelliousSpirit it's a way to keep them away from society until they are released and changed their criminal mind at least til we get some kind of reform. there are some who do not rehabilitate. I think they should be locked up until they rehabilitate from their criminal mind to protect the public and to keep the crime rate down or we will have excessive crime like they have in soft on crime cities.
@specman Being tough on criminals never works as a deterrent for other criminals.
Putting lots of them in a closed up building in small spaces and treating them badly will never archieve reform but maybe some come out psychological so damaged that they can't do anything ever again.

@RebelliousSpirit It should not be a joyful experience. But it still needs some reforms. We shouldn’t blame ourselves for them not rehabilitate. It’s like changing someone’s mind from a outlook they have. Example is I will never nor will anyone else change your mind about this. Barring from heaven forbid that you or a close family member or close friend becomes a victim and even then you might not change your mind.
@specman Are you one of those "law and order" republicans who categorizes people into good and evil?

@RebelliousSpirit are you a liberal advocating for criminals. So no response to my comment?
@specman Don't insult me by calling me a liberal.
You think that being though on crime prevents crime which no research backs up that's why there wasn't a need to respond.

@RebelliousSpirit I was referring to rehabilitation not being the fault of anyone trying to rehabilitate some of the criminals. And I compared it to your beliefs. Like some criminals cannot rehabilitate. They have a distorted outlooks that they will not change cause they think their outlook is correct.

(Not implying you too have a distorted outlook.) ( it can be a example of my belief also )

It would be like changing your beliefs cause you think you have the answer to our problem.
