What Would You Do For $5.2 Million?

This is a real story but it sounds like a ridiculous joke.

A fully grown woman had intercourse with her former romantic partner in his car in Missouri. She claimed that she contracted HPV, the human papillomavirus, as a result of having sex in his car. So, what did she do? She filed a claim against his car insurance company. The company told her to bug off but they went to arbitration. She was awarded $5.2 million!!

I suppose if she had gotten pregnant that the insurance company would have had to pay her medical bills and child support.

Missouri woman says she caught STD in car. Auto insurance to pay out $5.2 million
"KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Missouri Court of Appeals has affirmed that an insurance company must pay a $5.2 million settlement granted to a Jackson County woman who claimed she unwittingly caught a sexually transmitted disease from her former romantic partner in his car."

"In May 2021, the arbitrator found that the man and woman had sex inside his vehicle that “directly caused, or directly contributed to cause” the HPV infection. The man was found liable for not disclosing his infection status and the woman was awarded $5.2 million for damages and injuries to be paid by GEICO."

What the hell.... how is the insurance company or car company even remotely responsible for this? Sure alot of cars can have sex appeal like a Ferrari but even that is a weak case. Personal responsibility people...
Also most men do not know they are infected since they experience no symptoms, and the disease is not lifelong.... it often only lasts two years!

@ShadowWolf they want to make gunmakers responsible for criminal acts of shooters so why not.

hey want to make gunmakers responsible for criminal acts of shooters so why not.
Which is also asinine. Post sale, the gunmaker isn't liable unless the product malfunctions.

@ShadowWolf As I said, it sounds like it's a ridiculous joke but it's real life in America. The original story is in the Kansas City Star newspaper but it has a paywall = https://www.kansascity.com

Here's a short version =
Geico ordered to pay $5.2M to woman who got HPV in a car https://ca.news.yahoo.com/geico-ordered-pay-5-2m-170300926.html

Do you think this could work in your State? If so, it would save you from moving to Missouri.

"Most HPV infections (9 out of 10) go away by themselves within 2 years. But sometimes, HPV infections will last longer and can cause some cancers. HPV infections can cause cancers of the: Cervix, vagina, and vulva in women."

@ShadowWolf I once cut myself with a kitchen knife. I should have sued the knife manufacturer and the store where I bought it. I might have gotten $1 million.
