I’m not even sure what to think about this…

Too bad all these police weren’t around to save lives. 😞

UVALDE — Police officers from across Texas are out in force in Uvalde, providing a conspicuous law enforcement presence at funerals for the 19 children and two teachers killed in the massacre at Robb Elementary School.

Out-of-town officers began to converge on the city after the May 24 shooting. Although they say they’re here to support Uvalde police, the exact nature of their role is unclear.

Police departments with a visible presence in Uvalde include Fort Worth, Lubbock, Del Rio, Allen, Conroe, Pearland, Grand Prairie, College Station and Bedford. Many of those departments do not appear to be operating here under any formal agreement with the city of Uvalde.

The outside officers have been especially visible at funerals for victims of the massacre. Reporters have been barred from attending the services and have been limited to designated viewing areas. Although the number of journalists in town has dwindled, interactions with police have become tense.
The reports from parents dribbling out now suggest that the Uvalde police were way out of their depth; too slow to engage the shooter; out of communication with their station, etc.

This doesn't tell us that this particular collection of police were particularly bad at police work; this, in combo with Sandy Hook & Stoneman Douglas, tells us that in general, American cops are not prepared for a situation this awful. Even when cops arrive, they're not up to solving the situation. In short, the "good guys with guns" theory has definitively failed.
@ElwoodBlues I do believe that. My understanding is that federal agents, who were told by local police to wait, disregarded that instruction. They went in and "neutralized" the shooter.
So whatever training they receive, apparently now needs to be incorporated into local police academy training—based upon results.

Im with you here.
Are they there to intimidate the citizenry?
They certainly arent protecting anyone. Too late for that.
@Carla Yeah…if I were the loved one of those being buried today, I think I’d be furious…now you’re all showing up ? Where were you when those kids and their teachers needed you ? 😞
They say there are 160 guns per American out there yet not one good guy with a gun is stopping the shootings....

I heard of one instance last week.

1st I've heard about this.
Interesting in an undoubtedly negative way.
I would have then barred from any funeral. They are only there to start another massacre.
