What's wrong with this story?

From Fox News, about a shooting on an Amtrak train. Quote:

"Magnus said the Counter Narcotics Alliance, a task force comprised of local and federal law enforcement agencies, boarded a New Orleans-bound Amtrak train stopped at a station in downtown Tucson around 8 a.m. to do a routine check for illegal guns, drugs, money, and other items. "

The wording of that sentence really sends chills up my spine. Bad writing? Or what?

A routine check? Huh?

@Iwillwait BINGO!!!! That word "routine" jumped out at me. In context, using that specific word "routine" left me thinking.....WTFFF?!?!?!?!?

If you read the story, it sounds like heavily armed feds were strip-searching passengers and dumping out the contents of their suitcases. Otherwise, how do they search for "guns, drugs, money, and other items". This wasn't in the context of passengers BOARDING the train. This was in the context of searching persons and personal property ON the train. And you'd have to do a pretty invasive search to find the specific items (not to mention UNSPECIFIED items) that they were searching for.

And this is ROUTINE??????????????

HOLY CRAP!!!!

@mikeylyksit so, when does possession mean ownership?
mikeylyksit · 41-45, M
@Iwillwait You are preaching to the choir, dude. Paper money is essentially illegal in the United States now. You only "own" it until you are stopped by law enforcement for...any reason at all. Then if you have more money on you than you could spend on dinner at a fast casual type food place...
Well, that's money that you used to own...

What's really infuriating is that when money is "adopted" by law enforcement, most of it goes to the agency that "adopted" it. So there's tremendous monetary incentive for cops to find money and deem that money to be suspicious because it is....MONEY.

@mikeylyksit So If I have a lousy Grand on my person, they'll take it? 😤

@Iwillwait Yes. In fact, they are more likely to take small amounts, as people will (most likely) not SUE to get the money back. A thousand? Yes, that will be taken.
