Yiddish word of the day

We have godfamily. I have no idea why. Many religions have godparents and godchildren, but I think only black people have godcousins, godnephews and the like.
At a gathering I heard my godson introduce himself to my father as his "god-grandson". Pop was cool with it. 😄
