I Am Learning Chinese

I wonder which tricks those of you learning Chinese use to memorise characters.
It helps me sometimes to associate them with nonsensical images. For instance, the 点 character reminds me of a centipede carrying a tank on its back , 西 of a man getting up from bed 😄

In learning Chinese characters, there is no other way of remembering them other than repetition and memorisation. We used to do a lot of penmanship, writing entire square exercise books of the characters. It was something I enjoyed doing and I miss it nowadays. Good penmanship requires a certain sitting posture and a certain way of gripping your pen. Every stroke demands a certain concentration and energy and I love the discipline in doing it. You are doing great! I love the images you have in your mind! Press on!
