I Am Learning Chinese

Last month I started a course on Chinese writing. The aim of this course it is to learn the most usual three hundred basic characters (out of the thousands of them). My learning rhythm is about five characters a day. Sometimes it seems an impossible task. It is quite depressing when I recognise a character I am supposed to have learnt, but I cannot remember its meaning.

What I like most of my learning is that when you master a character, you will use it to build more characters in the future. And the more characters I learn, the more I realise how extremely logical Chinese language is. For instance, there is the character 手(hand) and the character 机 (machine). You put both together 手机and you get cellphone. Or you put together 奴 (woman) and 子 (child) and you get 好 (good). It is not our western logic, but a different logic, and this makes it even more enticing.

God good luck! I'd be completely frustrated!

Mandarin. But as the name of the group was already there, I go along with it.

which region?

this stuff always drives me crazy because when generalized you think you have it but when you talk to someone from china .. they'll get into this whole regional dialect and translation thing.

though most i know are from southern china's regions.

@Sighmeupforthat. Standard Mandarin, simplified characters. I think the only good thing Mao Tse Tung did was to simplify them.

@Lemony. I often feel frustrated too when I try to write a character and I just get a crappy sketch.
Chinese? Are you sure that is the correct name ?
