@yeronlyman I do not know? The family fled to England during The Great Famine (my great great grandfather was born in Liverpool) then they left for America (Boston).

@yeronlyman My brother has tried to find out (he spends a lot of time in Ireland ... journalist/golf enthusiast) to no avail.

I don't know about your Irish family, but my Irish family (especially the elders) did not talk about the past. Stoic to a fault.
