Let's play a Guess the Language game!

This is the same phrase translated into ten languages (4 European, 3 African, and 3 Asian). Guess as many as possible without cheating😋

3. Vad tycker du om John Olinger, och skulle du göra det med honom?

4. Wat dink jy van John Olinger, en sou jy hom doen?

5. आपको जॉन ओलिंगर के बारे में क्या लगता है, और क्या आप उनके साथ रहेंगे?

6. Unafikiri vipi kuhusu John Olinger, na je, ungeweza kufanya naye?

7. Ano sa tingin mo kay John Olinger, at gagawin mo ba siya?

My partial answers:

In the first, I recognize Greek words I have seen before (from looking at the Greek New Testament) and still don't know the meaning of! I also can read Greek letters phonetically, and that second word looks like it is related to the word for "knowing" and "gnostic" ("nouous" or something like that), so I vote for Greek there.

Number 10 looks like Portuguese, which to me reads like very nasal-sounding Spanish.

In number 4, "dink" looks like a Germanic language, but it's not German. "van" makes me think of Dutch.

Number 5 I recognize as East Asian. I am sure I have seen this kind of script before, but I cannot remember which language.

Number 2 is another one where I seem to recognize these kinds of words from seeing them before, even though I cannot read a single one. I am pretty sure it is Vietnamese, as i have seen Vietnamese newspapers and signs.
@DrWatson Greek yes! Portuguese yes. Think South Asian for number 5 spoken in a very large country. Vietnamese correct!

Number 4: it's not Dutch...

I'm annoyed I didn't recognize Portuguese. I should have woken up my wife for this. She's better at it.
Without looking them up:
1. Greek
2. Vietnamese
3. Dutch
4. Afrikaans
5. Hindi (but it could be any Indian language that uses Devanagari script)
6. Zulu
7. No idea. Obviously an African language
8. Irish Gaelic
9. No idea. An Asian language. Tahitian?
10. Catalan? I don’t think it’s Portuguese

I think I at least got the continents right.
@LeopoldBloom

1, 2, 4, 5, 8 are correct. You would have been correct with 10

7 is not an African language, but 9 is

For 6. think Lion King
Adrift · 61-69, F
#10 is in Portuguese.
SpudMuffin · 61-69, M
1. Greek
2. Vietnamese
3. Swedish/Danish?
4. Dutch
5. Hindi

7. Burmese?
8. Doesn't seem to have a word for 'think'!
10. Potuguese
@SpudMuffin You got 4 right. Number 3 is either Swedish or Danish so you could get 5 :P
SpudMuffin · 61-69, M
thepreposterouspanda · 36-40, M
1. Greek
2. Vietnamese
3. Turkish maybe?
4. Dutch
5. Tamil

And then I'm stumped until 10 which I think is Portugese?
@thepreposterouspanda You got 3 right :)
The Tagalog translation is weirdly constructed. And the Portuguese translation is Portuguese from Brazil.
🥲
@BloviatingBuffoon I’m not perfect but thanks for pointing it out 😊
OK, answers:

1. Greek 🇬🇷
2. Vietnamese 🇻🇳
3. Swedish 🇸🇪
4. Afrikaans 🇿🇦
5. Hindi 🇮🇳
6. Swahili 🇰🇪🇹🇿
7. Tagalog 🇵🇭
8. Irish 🇮🇪
9. Yoruba 🇳🇬
10. Portuguese 🇵🇹🇧🇷

Shall we play again? 😝
OK, no 9 is Yoruba, a language spoken widely in Nigeria. Very tough!
Adrift · 61-69, F
I dont know John Olinger or what to think or what I would do with him.
6 and 9 are both African languages
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
1. Greek.
2. Vietnamese.
3. Swedish.
4. Afrikaans.
5. Hindi.
6. Not sure.
7. Looks Filipino?
8. Gaelic.
9. No clue.

@basilfawlty89 Very good! 8 is Gaelic, but is it Irish or Scots Gaelic? hehe. Number 9 is difficult. It's an African language spoken by a lot of people in a large country in West-ish Africa. 6 is also African. Think Lion King.
SpudMuffin · 61-69, M
@Mesthartiya 6 Swahili?
