There are some words in German that are either made up or have a different meaning than in English. For example:

Beamer - projector
Barkeeper - bartender
Drive-In - drive-through
Evergreen - oldie
Flipper - pinball machine
Handy - mobile phone
Homeoffice - working remotely, working from home
Mailbox - answering machine
Mobbing - bullying
Old Timer - vintage car
Public Viewing - TV watching in public
Smocking - tuxedo
Streetworker - a social worker
Timer - either timer like in English but also a diary or a personal organizer
Trampen - hitchhiking
