Symbols in Islam

Why is the cross symbol considered offensive to Muslims? It seems it's not only the christian version but also the equal armed version as used by the International Red Cross/Cresent. Also, what is the basis of the Cresent symbol used in Islam?

In Islam it is believed that Jesus wasn’t crucified

@Nunki That would explain why Islam does not recognize the crucifix type cross as a religious symbol but I don't see how that makes the equal armed cross offensive.

Only the close minded are offended by that. Also the crescent symbol comes from the importance of the lunar calendar for fasting and pilgrim etc @Sharon

@Nunki That makes sense. I'd forgotten about the significance of the lunar calendar.
