The Egyptian community
I was casually following an Egyptian family on YouTube especially during the years I was living with my family, it seemed like it was an escape at the time and a coping mechanism. The reason I started watching them was exactly because they were living the stereotypical conservative Muslim marriage life. She lives in the kitchen and he is the “man”. I really wanted to observe their life.
They were very smart and creative though, and managed to collect millions of followers and subscribers and to produce very high quality videos. They ended up moving to Turkey, and throughout the years, they changed a little bit and became more open minded, that I even forgot why I started watching them.
Recently, I was surprised to find the wife and the daughter have removed the Hijab! It was such a surprise because it used to be a big part of their identity and how people used to endlessly praise them for being covered. I was really happy to see their new videos enjoying their new looks and life.
It did reveal though how much the Egyptian community is hypocrite, hateful, jealous, racist, a bully, incredibly nosy, and just collectively self righteous.
The amount of hate, and the number of insults in the comments is crazy. Literally all the comments are about her looks and her hair, either bullying her looks or insulting her or talking about her as if she is now satan himself! These are the same fans who used to appreciate her. It is crazy that you would love or hate someone just based on whether they cover their head or not! It did reveal how much they hate anyone who doesn’t look like them and dares to enjoy life.
What a judgmental community. It is really a scary truth that a big part of that society seem to have this thinking and this much hate.
