Hamed Abdel Samad

I just bought the tickets to attend the lecture of Hamed Abdel Samad. One of my most favorite authors and thinkers. But that’s not the good part about it, they also arranged for a gala afterwards with Arabic music where we get to have fun with him! (It is almost an entire day event that starts in the morning and ends at night!)

I have electronic versions of his books but I would like to get a physical one to get his signature! I will get my favorite “ The Hidden aspects of Islamic history: a brief history since Mohamed until today”.

So freaking excited!!!! To me, that’s a victory. Why?

Because the person I used to watch with headphones on while keeping my screen private as if I am a watching p*rn or something, now I get to go to his lecture, hang out with him afterwards, and celebrate freedom, totally unrestrained. The ultimate feel of freedom! As I remember the few months I lived completely alone before I immigrated, I used to play his lectures loudly in the apartment while packing my suitcases (it happened to be Ramadan at the time too) and I felt sooooo free, that I can’t believe I am sitting in the middle of the living room with his lectures playing loudly and packing for immigration, both things I worked hard to hide from the rest of the family (i think I posted about that day). Now I get to go to his lecture and be in his audience once this put on YouTube, as I used to think they were very lucky! I guess freedom comes in stages too.

I feel free! Which is a feeling that I don’t feel often these days given that I started taking my freedom for granted. But whenever something happens to remind me, I feel thankful and proud too.

Will he have signed books available? Try to get a selfie with him.
