I Am Enjoying Being A Muslim

Allah the Exalted loves them who forgo worldly life, the Angels love them who reject the vices, and the people love them who give up greediness in respect of others.

Greed pushes people to an extent where they become inhuman. It makes them forget about others and they start collecting as much as possible for themselves. I learned that miserliness, cowardice, and greed appear to be different wicked qualities but they all arise from the same evil mentality of having no faith and no trust in Allah. Greed and faith never co-exist in the human heart.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
“Your rivalry in the accumulation of wealth diverts your minds.”

[Quran 4:128]
"Souls are prone to avarice; yet if you do what is good, and practice piety—Allah is Cognizant of what you do."

Why dont people translate the word Allah into English? Seems weird you'd write the entire Qur'an in English but the one word you don't translate is God

@Qwerty14 Thank you for your question. I don't translate Allah because Allah is the name of God, the Creator. It's untranslatable. The word God, however, is translated as ilah which means something worshiped.

I love that name😌 it touches my soul @Madeleine

@Qwerty14 the word "God" and "Allah" have distinct definations!!
@Madeleine Allah is literally translatable though as it comes from the Aramaic word for God "Elah".

God's name is debatable but most regard it as YHWH (either pronounced Yahweh or Ya HuWa) which means "He who is". In English this translates to Jehovah.

Does the Qur'an refer to God's name being Allah? And if so, why is it not YHWH like in the Tanakh?
Panther · 26-30, M
Exactly!!!
@Panther Don't they have the same definition?
Panther · 26-30, M
Somehow they differ!!

@Qwerty14 These are good notes and questions. God in Arabic also means Elah or Ilah as I mentioned. But it's not God's name. God's name in Aramaic is Aalah according to the Bible, which is the same as Allah:الله. The name Allah has no translation and doesn't have a gender: masculine nor feminine.

God has 99 names and attributes mentioned in the Quran, Allah is one of the most frequently mentioned. Yahweh is not one of God's names according to the Quran. Why it's not? Yahweh is Hebrew, and we all know that Jesus (peace be upon him) spoke Aramaic and he didn't refer to God as Yahweh.
@Madeleine Those 99 names are just titles though. They're all "the something". No one's name starts with "the". I mean like how in the Tanakh they actually say Gods name is YHWH. Do they do that in the Qur'an?

Jesus (peace be upon him) spoke several languages in the bible. He most definitely knew Aramaic, Latin and Greek as well as Hebrew. Scripture though was written in Hebrew and Greek. They almost never wrote it in Aramaic. That is why when reading the New Testament you should stick to the Greek bible for the most accurate translation.
Madeleine · 41-45, F
@Qwerty14 Those 99 names are actually names and attributes of God, and they are the ones that God chose to reveal to us, in order for us to understand who God is, but it doesn't mean that God's names and attributes are limited to 99, and God knows best.

Allah is the name of God in the Quran and it is the name of God that used by Jesus (peace be upon him). Jesus only spoke Aramaic, and all the other languages in the bible are merely either translations or written by historians.
@Madeleine Interesting. Why do you feel Jesus only spoke Aramaic? Like I get you think he isn't God so that argument is moot, but even just reading the Bible it is quite clear he speaks Greek and Hebrew too.
Madeleine · 41-45, F
@Qwerty14 What did you base your information on?
@Madeleine Well he is very learned in the scriptures which were written in Hebrew and conversed with many Greeks and Romans who wouldn't speak Aramaic. Further, he specifically came from a town where Greek was quite common so I doubt he'd have not learnt it (if he wasn't in fact God who'd k ow all language by default)
Madeleine · 41-45, F
@Qwerty14 It would make sense that he knew Hebrew, because it's the language of prophet Moses (peace be upon him), and we know for a fact that Jesus (peace be upon him) knew the Torah by heart in its original form, and he would point out all the corruptions and changes that Rabbis made on the book- it's one of the reasons why he was rejected by them. But I'm not sure that he spoke Greek, and he didn't have to, because he was sent only to the Children of Israel. However, what I know is that Jesus never called God, Yahewh.

Do you believe that Jesus was God?
@Madeleine The bible says he is God. Doesn't matter what I think
Madeleine · 41-45, F
@Qwerty14 If the Bible was God's word, then I would have to believe it too. But is it the word of God?
@Madeleine Yes. The Bible contains the word of God. I actually don't know how Muslims justify ignoring the Bible considering their religion is based off of it
Madeleine · 41-45, F
@Qwerty14 In Islam, we believe in the original revelation of the Torah to prophet Moses, and the Gospel to prophet Jesus.

The Bible is written by unverified authors.
@Madeleine How do you know what Moses or Jesus wanted without reading the Torah and the Gospels written in the Bible?
Madeleine · 41-45, F
@Qwerty14 Does the Bible contain the Gospel of Jesus?
@Madeleine the Bible contains the Torah and Gospels that were about both Moses and Jesus. Neither actually wrote their stuff down although some debate the Torah was partly written by Moses
Madeleine · 41-45, F
@Qwerty14 The Bible says that Jesus was going around preaching the Gospel. Where is this Gospel now?
@Madeleine As far as I'm aware, the only Gospel is written in the Bible
Madeleine · 41-45, F
@Qwerty14 In the Bible we have Gospels, and all of them were written at least a century after Jesus' departure from the earth. What I'm talking about is the Gospel that Jesus (peace be upon him) himself used to preach, where is it now?
@Madeleine actually only one of the books is written over a century after Jesus and that is Revelation. The earliest book was written 20 years after Jesus's death
