I Am Enjoying Being A Muslim

[big]The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
"I and the one who looks after an orphan will be together like this [he raised his index and middle fingers together] in the next world."
[/big]

[big]
"The one who strives to help a widow or the poor is like one who struggles in the cause of God (jihad)."
[/big]

Orphans in Islam are children whose fathers have died. In the Islamic law, the orphans become the responsibility of the society. New Muslims who lose their families because of the conversion must also be included in this category. Orphans also applied to children of dysfunctional families, for all the facts and purposes they are orphans. The spirit of the Islamic charity would therefore dictate that society should provide for these orphans by providing foster care, housing and material and spiritual needs consistently, professionally and compassionately. I learned to be good to orphans and the needy, to speak nicely to people and to help the poor.

Somewhere in the world, right now, there are people who would love to be in our shoes. They have no food, no shelter, no family, and we have it all. The world's light doesn't come from the sun, but it comes from the orphan' smile.

@CopperCicada Thank you for stopping by.
@Madeleine I like your posts because they are spiritual and honest.

My background is in contemplative Christianity and Buddhism, and that honesty and directness is what really matters to me. How is faith changing a person? what does it do to one's heart? how does it help one face challenges in life?

These "interfaith" conversations people have with you where you post about your life and experience (love pain loss fear)-- but then you're somehow defending religious freedom in Islam and whether Allah is an idol... well, they just confuse me. I'm thinking: gee, Madeleine just said a nice thing, did ya miss it?

@CopperCicada I respect your open mind and how you view the world. I don't mind healthy discussions, even if off topic, as long as there's mutual respect and sincere desire to understand. What I don't enjoy is empty arguments.

Religion in general and Islam in particular is attacked by the media, regardless of their hidden agenda, people are not to blame if they are filled with misinformation. So I understand why they would come up with those crazy questions and ideas. I think we all should educate ourselves and stop stereotyping each other.
@Madeleine i get that.

sometimes i just feel-- about any number of subjects... can't we just say/do nice things??...

@CopperCicada I agree.
