Online dating bio; advice?

Hi I kinda asked around; friends and strangers etc for advice on a *good* Tinder bio. I found some of the comments useful and rewrote it (I’m unsure if I should delete and remake my Tinder account again now the bio is improved)

Im unsure how important bios are considered to be on Tinder? Or what to include?

It’s seems a there is a fine line between self-deprecating, bragging and being humble in a bio

I kinda thought honesty was the best policy and tried to be direct but positive. I kinda think I’m either misunderstanding the assignment or I’m just unclear what is standard on dating app bios? Anyone else unsure on what works?

For context; I’m 32M, live in the UK 🇬🇧 and I’m neurodivergent myself. So summarising myself might be off putting? I don’t even know if Tinder is the app for me - I paid for a month of Tinder; and kinda feel *meh* (i paid for tinder because it felt like the biggest app)

My bio is:

*“My Last Date Didn’t Like Lord Of The Rings… So We Stopped Tolkien”*

*I love animals. Cat-dog dad and proud neurodivergent geek ♾*

*Into pasta, gaming, horror and fantasy shows and movies, reading, and making tiny clay models*

*Politically on the left. I value kindness, honesty, and solid communication*

*Coffee, or a pub date? Swipe right and let’s pick one*

So yeah:

1. a pun-based “joke” (dad/ pun based jokes are good in bios I think)
2. mentions pets and being ND ♾
3. hobbies to spark a bit of interest
4. politics and a bit about who I want to date, so I kinda set a tone (kinda implies my character too)
5. a date idea to set an expectation

I’m missing something or I’m saying something bad? Feel free to tell me if I’m doing something wrong lol

But yeah; as a wider discussion: does the bio throw you all off a bit too?

your bio seems perfect for attracting the right type of person for you so the possibility of you two getting along would be better. i think its good. you might need to be patient though. although the only thing that i didnt like about it was calling yourself neurodivergent. that covers a big range of hang ups or characteristics or whatever you want to call the attributes associated with the term. maybe try to make it a little more specific while still being vague lol. if i was looking and saw neurodivergent id def swipe left but one of my friends that i have it would probably pique her curiosity so its up to you. just my preference personally. butin general i wouldnt think of it as a positive term in the context of dating site.

@Penny I’m AuDHD; Autistic and ADHD (I have OCD too - but don’t relate to that as an “identity” in myself)

What about neurodivergent would deter you? Are you neurotypical yourself?

Ah you’d see it as a negative trait? I’m in two minds… I guess I could delete it and disclose in a chat? But a bit dishonest maybe?

@GoldenOldie i am neurotypical . i think my score on the autism test was 00. none of those things you described would be a deal breaker though in dating but just the label neurodivergent is a turn off to me. its like too much too soon in the dating department too. im a medically well-controlled schizophrenic. putting that on a dating site wouldnt make me expect a lot of replies lol. i think its similar to that. i dont think its dishonest to not tell that until after meeting.

@Penny maybe I’ll just leave neurodivergent out. What about if I put “ND ♾” it’s more subtle? Or just hint at it with words “awkward” and “nerdy”

@GoldenOldie i like that awkward and nerdy sounds endearing :)

@GoldenOldie good luck on tinder. my daughter met her long-term boyfriend on Bumble. that might be a place to go on too.

@Penny I’m going to try Bumble too! I’m only on Tinder because it’s the “popular one” 😊 Bumble had a “Neurodivergent” filter too!
