Speaking of love obsession

I met a guy online as a teen when I was in a relationship. To me he and me were friends and that's what I told him and that's also why we never met irl. So we had contact a few weeks but it stopped once I noticed he was feeling more than friends. We didn't talk again.


10 years later I'm in a car as I get a call from a number I don't recognise. I answer. And hear:

"Hi. It's me."

Me: Who are you?

Him: It's Marcus.

I go through my mental library of names and people. I find the file Marcus with the coca cola bed covers.

Me: Oh. Hello. Why are you calling me, hasn't it been what, 10 years?

Him: Yes that's why I'm calling. To congratulate us.

Me: Congratulate?

Him: Yes. If you hadn't stopped talking to me, and not stayed with your boyfriend, this would be out tenth year anniversary.

Me: ....

I dated a guy for about a year. He went off his meds and I bailed out. Now he texts a proposal about twice a year.

@Queendragonfly I prefer as little entanglement as possible. Besides, he's living with his ex-wife back East. Apparently she won't marry him either.
