I Remember Life Before the Internet

Yeah, the Good Old Days...where you had to have dictionaries or encyclopedias or both at home or access to a local library and a valid library card to look up information...and those were the days where teachers wanted twenty-five page research papers in almost any subject. Some of the books were not even toteable to take home - so many of them disappeared after being checked out and never seen again.

When I was moving from my house to an apartment, I had an animal lover who took my cockatiel home for caring. When he was helping me clean out a closet, he discovered a mouse in the corner of it. Instead of killing it, he tried to pick it up, intending to set it free outside, and it bit him. He managed to catch it and put it out, but I bet it had rabies or something, because he became sick and died shortly afterward. When his mother cleaned his closet out, she found two cockatiel books he had obtained from the library. Both were overdue. I called the library and explained the situation. I was told to bring the books back and drop them in the drop-off box in front if the library. I did just that.

And I got my cockatiel back, too.
That's too bad about your friend. I've never heard of anyone dying from a mouse bite. I've never even heard of anyone being bitten by a mouse.

I hope you weren't charged a fine for the books being so late.

And, I'm glad you got your cockatiel back.

I was fortunate to be there at the beginning of the PC and internet boom. It's been a truly great ride.

My first computer came in kit form and required a soldering iron to put it together.
