You Don't Need A Subscription To Nest

Google was able to capture the image of an intruder at Savannah Guthrie's mom's house, even though she did not subscribe to a service to capture videos.

The camera will "call home" and save videos to a temporary location without the owners' knowledge.

Google engineers were able to recover the footage and shared it with the FBI.

Interesting point, thank you. I only caught part of this on the news. I didn't know she wasn't subscribed to any monitoring service. I was wondering why no doorbell video was being made public over the last week. Now it makes sense.

It does bring up an interesting point, how accessible are internet based voice and video systems, even if they're not subscibing to storage systems, they're effectively on all the time...

@Majorlatency There was no subscription. But Google still has data. Don’t know if Ring does the same.

People should also remember that Alexa is also recording, 24/7

Why I don't like anything by Google and attempt to minimize as much as possible anything by Google.

If any believe that the mini AI versions are really private they have a lot to learn about the Internet.

Any aspect that most don't understand can and will be exploited.

You can't get rid of all of it. Yet you can minimize your usage.

Yes,I've seen that video;hopefully it will assist the investigation of this very odd case.
It may help in this case…but it’s rather alarming otherwise. 😳
