And also when the internet used to make a horrible hissing/crackling noise trying to get a connection ?? Man that was annoying.

I don't miss it. Had dial up for about 6 months in 2001-2002 and it blew. I did use MSN Messenger. Confession: Also Yahoo Chat, AOL Instant Messenger, and Live Journal.
