How advertisers are stealing your life
I’m sure that this is something that comes up a lot in day to day discussion but it’s quite disturbing seeing just how this system works in reality.
I come to realize this through the many hours I used to spend browsing through the internet and then I would go on to some sites such a YouTube and find that certain advertising contains certain elements of things that I had previous searched for or browsed on the net.
I remember one time how I shared a picture of myself in a stripy shirt once on another social media platform, about two weeks later there was an advert that low and behold, was a picture of a man wearing EXACTLY the same shirt I was wearing in my original picture.
A coupe or years later I was looking for another product online, it was some kind of bathrobe and much to my disturbance, Later when watching YouTube saw an ad of someone, yes you guessed it, wearing exactly the same kind of bathrobe I was browsing for.
I think it goes to show that anything you do on the internet is being sold as information for advertisers to benefit from. This has gone on for many years and it’s only with GDPR that it’s become a lot clearer.
But almost every website today uses trackers that track your browsing activity, visits to other sites and they then piece this information together as a profile. Many websites can have up to 50 or more separate agencies which track your activity.
Apps are also a hazard, many of them track the use of your device and the activity that you do. It is nothing other than thee greatest information gathering schemes in existence.
It’s particularly concern because it means advertisers could piece together bits of information and use it to basically steal research. And who knows, whether an ‘advertising’ company is legitimately interested in advertising or simply passing off this information on the black market, to develop new products, services and more, products and services that YOU, could be making money from.
It’s for this reason that I recommend, never ever ever, search for a phrase or something that is proprietary or related to anything confidential, such as an invention. Only use a secure system and a website that doesn’t use cookies such as a dedicated official site, making sure to turn off as many cookies as possible. If you can’t turn them off, get out of the site and clear all your cookies immediately. etc. etc. only search for things that you would want to throw and show on the city streets.
It’s very concerning to see that we are all involuntarily feeding this system. Don’t like it, don’t use computer, don’t use the internet, don’t use social media, don’t use gmail; don’t use any email service provider, have no life at all, because that is the blackmail ransom we are all forced into
