A lot of things have changed. When I was younger I use to really look forward to holiday weekends. Now I'm like ugh! Long lines everywhere. Jacked up prices. Let's just stay home and go out on Tuesday. ☹

@Musicman There is a big lake that is popular with a lot of people in central Oklahoma here east of the city. Locals won’t even consider driving to the lake on a major summer holiday because it’s so overcrowded. They had to start limiting how many cars came in because of it. The rangers couldn’t keep up with all of them. And they count the vehicles leaving and allow that many more to enter to prevent overcrowding even more.

@cherokeepatti I believe it. I grew up on a peninsula. We had Pohick Bay on one side. The Potomac River on the tip and the Occoquan River on the other side. There was a place called Sandy Beach on the Occoquan River side. You could only get there by boat. You want to seriously talk about over crowded on holiday weekends Sandy Beach was it. ☹

@Musicman It is really dangerous when the water is overcrowded, both for boats and swimmers. That was another reason they limited it. They have to call out Park Rangers for every accident incident. Things like someone wading around in shallow water and cutting the bottom of their foot on glass bottle shards for example.

@cherokeepatti It was definitely dangerous. Kids were trying to swim. Other's were water skiing and some people were trying to fish. Then there were the bigger boats anchored off shore and the smaller ones pulled up on the shore and of course everyone vying for their space on the beach. It was a mad house!

@Musicman Also people drinking and fighting or acting a fool in other ways like driving a boat etc. is a big thing on holidays. They aren’t supposed to be drinking at the lake but can bring water bottles etc filled with drinks and who will know till they start acting out.

@cherokeepatti Oh of course!
