What does labour day mean?

In Sweden this is the First May holiday. We are welcoming spring so everyone was looking at bonfires yesterday.

Well.......neither my school.
I´m not from USA and neither live there.
But even if those historical events got place there, the date soon became international.
And much later also a non working day in a lot of counries worldwide includding mine.
